Stories of Home: The Louis’ - Part 1

Meet the Homeowners:

Danesha is a community advocate and spends time fundraising and volunteering for various causes. Reggie is a member of the National Guard with a career in behavior therapy. His background is in autism, chronic illness recovery and clinical mental health. After marrying, Danesha and Reggie moved to Atlanta from Florida where they originally met through a young professionals group. Danesha was born and raised in The Bahamas and came to the US for school and Reggie is the son to Haitian parents. Together, they are planting roots and growing their family at home here in Atlanta.

How We Met:

The Louis’ and I met on Instagram. Danesha reached out for a call and we discussed the process. From our first conversation, I knew that they wanted to be prepared and fully understand the process so they had no surprises. After some time, they reached back out and were ready to move forward.

What They Wanted:

The Louis’ were crystal clear about what they needed in a home, some of those things included a home that could support one of Danesha’s passions of working with herbs and business, Intentional Theory, an herbal apothecary. They needed ample space for creating and stocking, and land that would be good for growing the produce she needs for her products. Reggie really wanted and needed a man cave for his various projects. Ultimately, they wanted a space to cultivate relationships with friends and family. So we hit the streets and began looking for a home in an insanely competitive market.

The stakes became a bit higher when they shared with me that they had just found out that they were expecting their first baby!

We bid on a few great homes, eventually securing a home in Jonesboro. They loved it and submitted an offer. We won the bid and went under contract. Unfortunately, due to some severe inspection issues, we terminated the contract and went back on the hunt. I began to notice some doubt, discouragement, and stress, but I continued to encourage them to keep moving and to not give up.

One morning, I did my daily survey of new listings and sent them some that matched their criteria. There was one with only a few blurry photos but a description that caught my attention. I included this is my list over but they didn’t select it. For whatever reason, I urged them to take a closer look and they did and decided to add it to our tour list for that day. Reggie couldn’t join us this day but knowing the market, Danesha and I began our tour and facetimed Reggie during the homes she loved.

The Perfect Home

When we walked into this home, we felt like we just walked onto a set of a Hallmark movie. It smelled of fresh-baked cookies, we heard the crackling of the fireplace, and saw the sun shining through the skylight windows. From the moment we walked in, it felt like H O M E. I saw Danesha’s eyes light up when she noticed small things that were almost like clues that this house was just for them – everything they asked for plus some:

• almost 2 acres of land
• man cave
• deck
• sun room
• swim and tennis community

and small things like tea cups and décor (one of Danesha’s loves) and a small cat scratcher nailed to the wall (they have a pet cat) – this house seemed to be made for them.

Going For It

So we did it again – we crafted a strategic, very strong and competitive offer and included a cover letter. After waiting a couple of days and hearing of many offers on this perfect property, I received a call from the listing agent. She essentially said – “There was an offer even higher than your clients, but the sellers feel drawn to them, and they want to pick their offer.” I was ecstatic and I couldn’t wait to share this great news with the Louis’.

So I called them to share and thankfully, I was able to catch it on camera:

Not only were they selected, but they were gifted gorgeous quality furniture from the sweetest sellers! Early during the transaction, they met the sellers and had the chance to share a sweet moment together. The found out that, although they we so different and would have likely never encountered each other in any other circumstance, they had so many things in common.

Closing day came, and they closed on the house of their dreams… A house that they can create a home and a haven for their new baby.

The sellers also left them a surprise:

Goodness! This just brings my heart so much joy, and I’m grateful that I get to celebrate them.
