1950s Ranch Revival: My Latest Project and Why I Chose It
If you know anything about me by now, you know that my job is also my hobby. I love real estate - buying homes and selling them. Encouraging people toward homeownership is kinda my “thing”. I love walking into a home and seeing my clients’ countenance change when I help them see the diamond underneath. Pretty, right? :)
When this house hit the market, it caught my attention. I loved that it had three bedrooms and three bathrooms in an up-and-coming neighborhood where lots of renovations are happening. When I reached out to the agent, she let me know that there was a special circumstance with the seller that limited showing times. Although her phone had “been ringing off the hook,” she eventually allowed a few hours on one weekday for all interested parties to view.
My friend Lauren and I were in a weekday morning Bible study an hour away, so we made it to the open house about 10 minutes before the listing agent closed the doors. Watching a few very experienced, buttoned-up investors leave with their clipboards, I put on my big-girl pants, knowing that whatever fear or intimidation I’d have would need to GET. So I pulled out my phone and started recording:
The majority of people may have seen a crowded old outdated house. I saw original hardwoods, a great lot, and a great location neighboring everything our city has to offer. Showing this video to family and friends, their reactions ranged from “WOW” to “ew”, but I’d soon, unexpectedly, make them believers. To my surprise, my offer was accepted, and I started the process of buying my second home.
I did it. Signed all the things. Made it mine. This outdated beauty with the best bones - my friends and I affectionately named “her” Belvy.
Stay tuned for Belvy’s step by step remodel.
